IFTA is extremely saddened by the sudden death of Michael White.
One of the leaders in the family therapy field, Michael White, has passed away.
In responding to the news of Michael White's death, Judith Landau, IFTA President said, "It is with the deepest regret and personal sadness that I learned of the untimely passing of Michael White. He was a remarkable human being--in every sense of the word--apart from being a leader in our field. His influence will be felt for generations to come, but his delightful and loving physical presence will be sorely missed."
Former IFTA President Arnon Bentovim, along with Marianne Bentovim, commented, "We would wish to join with the many colleagues, friends and people touched by Michael’s great skills to mourn his passing. I have good memories of meeting Michael in many parts of the world including Adelaide , and being inspired by his ideas and his approach to practise which still inform my own practise, and my training of others.
Michael is one of those select who can encapsulate a world of experience in an intervention which can transform. The ideas of ‘externalisation’ is one of those ideas which are so familiar that they are part of one’s vocabulary now, an intervention waiting to be developed, and Michael had the genius with his colleagues to refine and make it usable in every language and culture. There is so much we have to be grateful to in Michael’s approach and the Narrative tradition which has created an accessible meaningful approach to human pain and its transformation
Although he is not ‘with us’ in person any longer he is with us in spirit, and we will remember him as one of our network of meaningful influence."
IFTA leaders and members offer condolences to his family and those close to him at an unmeasurable loss.
